IFP's Independent Film Week
September 19-24, 2010
IFP is looking for filmmakers to participate in the Independent Film Week Project Forum. Formerly known as the IFP Market, Independent Film Week is the oldest and largest forum in the US for the discovery of new projects in development and new voices on the independent film scene. Founded as a satellite program of the 1979 New York Film Festival, Independent Film Week has evolved into the nation's oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers, and also the premier advocate for them. Since its start, it has supported the production of 7,000 films and provided resources to more than 20,000 filmmakers—voices that otherwise might not have been heard. The Project Forum is a meetings-driven forum connecting filmmakers who have new narrative and documentary projects with key industry executives interested in identifying projects with which to become involved at the financing or distribution stage. It is qualitatively and quantitatively the best opportunity for an independent filmmaker to connect with industry professionals - including producers, funders, distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and festival programmers. The Project Forum also furthers filmmaker and industry interaction with opportunities for networking at social events throughout the week. IFP believes that independent films broaden the palette of cinema, seeding the global culture with new ideas, kindling awareness, and fostering activism. To learn more about this event visit www.independentfilmweek.com.

American Film Market
November 3-10 , 2010
Founded in 1981, the American Film Market (AFM) has grown steadily to become the premiere global marketplace where Hollywood’s decision-makers and trendsetters all gather under one roof. Unlike a film festival, the AFM is a marketplace where production and distribution deals are closed. In just eight days, more than $800 million in deals will be sealed — on both completed films and those that haven’t started shooting yet — making AFM the must-attend industry event.
The business of independent motion picture production and distribution - a truly collaborative process - reaches its peak every year at the American Film Market. Over 8,000 industry leaders converge in Santa Monica for eight days of deal-making, screenings, seminars, red carpet premieres, networking and parties. Participants come from over 70 countries and include acquisition and development executives, agents, attorneys, directors, distributors, festival directors, financiers, film commissioners, producers, writers, the world’s press all those who provide services to the motion picture industry.
The AFM transforms Santa Monica. The Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel and the Le Merigot Beach Hotel are converted into a busy marketplace. All 23 screens on the Santa Monica Promenade and the surrounding community become AFM screening rooms for the entire eight-day event and eight digital and video screening rooms are added just for the AFM. Participants may view more than 900 screenings of approximately 500 films - 31 new films every two hours - the majority of them world or U.S. premieres. Titles range from big budget blockbusters that will be released by the major studios in the U.S., to lower budget art and genre films recognized at international film festivals, all destined for theaters and television around the world. American Film Market continues to be the pivotal destination for independent filmmakers and business people from all over the world. For more information on this event click here.

Spokane International Film Festival
February 3-13 , 2011
The Spokane International Film Festival is a small, selective festival of world-class films. They are chosen from the very best features, documentaries and shorts that have been made around the world during the past two years but have not yet been commercially released for wide distribution. In fact they are the same films as those seen each year at the Cannes, New York or Toronto film festivals, and our programmers travel widely to screen and select them. A major attraction of the festival is the presence of the filmmakers and stars themselves as our guests. They meet the audiences, share their own stories and anecdotes about the making of their films, and answer questions from audience members. The discussions are lively and educational and a favorite part of the festival for both filmmaker and audience. To learn more about this festival visit www.spokanefilmfestival.org.

True/False Film Festival Call for Entries
March 3-6, 2011
The True/False Film Fest returns for its eighth edition March 3-6, 2011. The festival highlights innovative work with a cinematic scope, creative takes on contemporary currents, and most of all work that provokes dialogue about its subject and the documentary form itself.
For four days, downtown Columbia, Missouri is transformed into a small-town Midwestern shangri-la of nonfiction film. From parties and panels to nonstop screenings and special events, an electric atmosphere is maintained throughout. Some highlights from the past year include Lixin Fan's LAST TRAIN HOME playing to a capacity crowd at the 1200 seat Missouri Theatre (with Fan in attendance); Adam Curtis (POWER OF NIGHTMARES) bringing his stunning and seldom seen IT FELT LIKE A KISS; and films ranging from the blockbuster (Soderbergh's AND EVERYTHING IS GOING FINE, RESTREPO), to undiscovered gems (Robert Green's KATI WITH AN I).
T/F began as a tribute to nonfiction film and those working in this burgeoning and essential field, and continues to honor this spirit. As Alex Gibney said, "[T/F] is how it should be, and rarely is".
