| At one time, Butte was considered one of the largest cities
west of the Mississippi. With the discovery of gold in 1864 came prospectors from the east with picks,
shovels and gold pans. Throughout the years, gold, silver, and copper have all been discovered in the hills
of Butte. Butte's colorful history can be seen in its preserved Victorian uptown business district and
mansions. We've highlighted some of the most unique and picturesque locations of uptown Butte here but
